This past November, Floridians were a scant 1.5% short in the vote to legalize medical  marijuana.  But don’t let that fool you into thinking that the sunshine state is weed friendly.  Au contraire, mon frere.

A recent multi-state study has shown that Floridians are cited for marijuana possession at a higher rate than residents of any other state.  And it isn’t even close.  According to the study, conducted by Muck Rock, one out of every 294 Floridians received a marijuana citation in the year 2011.  To put this in perspective, the 2nd highest number of citations (Arizona) was only one out of every 3,313 residents.

In fact, between 2011 and 2014, Florida gave out five times the number of citations given in all other states combined.  Which only goes to show that marijuana prohibition is not only wrong-headed, but its also having a real impact on the lives of a large number of Floridians.

These stats also underscore the need for continued vigilance in our fight against unjust cannabis laws.

Keep up the fight.
